Bo Bassett and Jax Forrest recently came out in support of their teammate, Jackson Butler. The junior wrestling champion rejoined the transfer portal after he was unceremoniously struck off from a previous program.
Butler had recently joined a D1 program, although he didn’t specifically mention which college. However, he was struck off the rolls without any proper notice.
Bo Bassett and Teammates Support Jackson Butler for the Transfer Portal
Butler, who hails from the same school as Bassett, narrated his experience on his Instagram account. Despite the setback, he decided to rejoin the transfer portal. Butler wrote in the caption of his Instagram post,
“I just received some news that the D1 program that I was committed to is cutting their program. This came out of no where. I am reopening my commitment and open to talking to all schools. This is hard but has to be a part of God’s Plan. Isaiah 41:10”
Bassett immediately came out in his support. He wrote in the comment section,
“Go get this guy. Hard worker, huge upside, and a comedian. Part of the plan!!! ????”
Forrest also joined Bassett in backing Butler in his decision, as he commented,
“You got this bro”
Bassett was previously seen in action at the Beast of the East tournament. The high school wrestling sensation clinched the gold medal in the 150 lb category.
Bassett’s Performance This Season
Bassett experienced a mixed bag in the 2025 season. Even though he did his best, the teenage wrestler missed out on the U20 World Championships.
However, Bassett didn’t give up. The 19-year-old wrestler clinched the gold medal at the Bill Farrell Memorial International tournament. Bassett also participated in the Junior Pan Am Games held in Paraguay, where he clinched the gold medal in the men’s 65kg. Freestyle category.

Bassett previously won a gold medal in the U17 Pan American Championships. He also clinched a gold medal in the U17 World Championships the same year, followed by a bronze medal at the U20 World Championships in 2024.
Bassett initially opted for the Iowa Hawkeyes as a part of the collegiate wrestling program. However, the teenage wrestler later rejoined the transfer portal and was eventually drafted into the Virginia Tech Hokies team. Bassett will be representing the team at the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships.
