US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he would “absolutely” revoke the citizenship of some Americans and revoke the citizenship of some “criminals” if he had the authority to do so.
“We have criminals who came to our country and were naturalized perhaps through that [President Joe] “Biden or whoever doesn’t know what they’re doing,” Trump said on Sunday in response to a reporter’s question.
He added: “If I had the ability to do that – I’m not sure I would, but if I did – I would revoke my citizenship, for sure.”
Trump also doubled down on his anti-immigrant rhetoric as he criticized Somali people living in the United States and threatened that his administration would halt new asylum applications “for an extended period.”
Trump said in response to a question about how long he intends to implement a temporary pause, “There is no time limit, but it may be long.”
He added: “We don’t want these people. Does this make sense? Do you know why we don’t want them? Because many of them were not good and should not be in our country.”
