New York — “The Golden Bachelor” Debbie Sibbers appeared on “Playing the Field: A Bachelor Podcast” to talk about her time on the show and a possible future in Bachelor Nation.
I spoke to Ryan Field, Jane Matarese, and Gina Sirico from her home in Denver, Colorado.
Debbie has been a fan favorite from the beginning. She was initially known for her “Slim in 6” exercise program, which she created for Beachbody.
Despite her fun and energetic personality, Mel found he had deeper relationships with his last two women, Cindy and Peg, and let Debbie go right before their Fantasy Suite dates.
Looking back, Debbie said she enjoyed watching, except for one “awkward” moment.
The most awkward moment was when they read the card and I got a personal appointment, I mean, how sad and pathetic I was because I cry a lot, but honestly, it was really a shock to me

“The most awkward moment was when they read the card and I got an in-person appointment,” Debbie said. “I mean how sad and pathetic I was because I cry a lot, but honestly, it was really a shock to me.”
I thought Roxanne would get it and was pleasantly surprised.
“When I look at my reaction, I’m like, ‘Take care, Debbie!’ She said.
The experience as a whole was more than she could have ever dreamed of.
“It was so special. I really had no idea what to expect. And at first, you know, when you first walk into the mansion, it was a very surreal moment, because it’s so special. And, you know, it was midnight by this time, and when we got out of the limo, it was already midnight, and I was so excited to meet the rest of the ladies,” Debbie said.
She came to the Bachelor Mansion well-versed. She is a huge fan of the franchise.
I’ve been a fan all the way back from Trista and Ryan. I was obsessed with the show.

“I’ve been a long-time fan of Trista and Ryan. I’ve been obsessed with the show,” Debbie said. “But honestly, when I first saw The Bachelor I was golden.” At first, I thought this wouldn’t fly properly. Who would want to watch a bunch of us, old women, you know, having sex in a hot tub? “I don’t know, I felt like when I watched it, it was very endearing.”
Debbie said she tried everything else like dating apps and even matchmaking agencies in Denver, but she was experiencing a big lull in her dating life.
She said she wished viewers had seen more chemistry between her and Mel, but while watching the show again, she could see that Mel had a stronger connection with the latter two.
I see clearly now that he didn’t have the same relationship with me.

“I see clearly now that he didn’t have the same relationship with me. I know he really loved me. I feel kind of upset. They edited that at Red Rocks, and they also did a tour, and, you know, we did yoga with a bunch of people, and that was a lot of fun. But, you know, there was a moment where he said, ‘You know, I really like you. I love you so much,’ and I felt it,” Debbie said.
However, she said she has some regrets about the way her hometown date went.
“I regret, you know, talking about my feelings so quickly. I got caught up in that moment. I definitely did. I was catching feelings, for sure, and I was very attracted to him, and I thought he was very funny, and they didn’t show a lot of his sense of humor, which, you know, I felt bad for him because of that, because, you know, he had a great personality, and he was really fun to be around,” she said.
But when it comes to regretting being on the show, she has none.
“I’ve gained so much by being on this show. I mean, first of all, I’ve gained all these amazing new friendships, and at this age, who can say that, you know, that we have these shared experiences, which is really priceless,” Debbie said.
The truth is, bringing Mel to meet her family was a big deal and very meaningful to all of her siblings and to her.
“But yeah, 14 years ago, I brought the guy that I was seeing, who I was really in love with, and he met all of my family. I mean, he’d only met a small part of Mel. I have a big family, and, you know, then, you know, he died, it was just, I don’t know if this is going to happen for me. I kind of gave up on the idea of marriage or, you know, I just wanted a companion that I just want to find my life partner to live with, and I miss that.”
It was great to see her brother playing with Mel, a retired NFL player, as they were both big fans! But the highlight of the visit brought tears to her eyes.
Seeing my brother’s reactions, oh my gosh, is the highlight of this whole experience. And I’m probably teary-eyed now, because my older brother Ron, who just turned 80, and he just held me, and he was crying and saying how proud he was of me and how happy he was for me.

“Seeing my brother’s reactions, oh my God, is the highlight of this whole experience. I’m probably teary-eyed right now, because my older brother Ron, who just turned 80, and he just held me, and he was crying and saying how proud he was of me and how happy he was for me, and oh my God. And my younger brother, Steve, crying. And, you know, I’ve seen my brothers cry maybe twice, and that’s when our parents died. So, I mean that alone is worth everything I’ve been through.”
The question all Debbie’s fans want to know is could she be the next ‘Golden Bachelorette’?
“I’m definitely going to be the ‘Golden Bachelorette’. Yeah. Listen, it’s going to be so exciting and terrifying at the same time. But I feel like I’m ready, and I feel like my heart is open and I feel like, you know, why not? I just think it’s going to be so exciting!”
She draws the line on “Bachelor in Paradise though.”
“No way,” she said. “I wouldn’t live in a suit on the beach. No. I mean, wouldn’t it sound terrible? Yeah, I couldn’t do that. No, no, I don’t, it’s not for me.”
In the end, she’s torn about who she thinks Mel will choose or who he’s right for.
“You know, I love these two women. They’re so polar, different, on the contrary, you know, and they both bring different things from Mel and they’re both just amazing women. I don’t really know, but I have to say, because I’ve watched the dates, obviously, I think where Mel is in his life now, and how Paige brings out the fun and energy, and, you know, I saw a different side of him with her. I was kind of leaning toward Paige, but I also know that Cindy has amazing chemistry and communication, and she’s one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever met in My life, so I don’t know!
