Famed San Francisco donut shop closing location after 70 years

(Crohn’s) – The old location of one of San Francisco’s legendary donut shops will close after 70 years. Bob’s Donuts has announced the closure of its store at 1621 Polk St. Later this month. Social media.

The last working day will be November 23rd. Bob’s Donuts will now move its operations to its newest location at 1720 Polk St., which opened in February.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye,” Bob’s Donuts wrote in a social media post on Sunday.

The lengthy post had a number of loyal Bob’s Donuts customers worried for a moment, thinking the entire business would shut down completely.

“The long post really scared me because you’re leaving forever! So glad you’re moving away for a bit. Still, thank you for sharing the honest history of this site,” one commenter wrote in response to the post.

“I will miss the atmosphere and familiarity of the old place but the new location is so beautiful! Congratulations to Aya and Don!” Another comment said.

The closing of the Polk Street store had been in the works for more than a year after Bob’s Donuts and the building’s landlord failed to reach an agreement on renewing the lease, KRON4 reported in June of 2024.

Opened in 1953, Bob’s Donuts is located downtown Old commercial registera list of small businesses in San Francisco that serves as “an important step in preserving the city’s cultural identity.”

For years, the 1621 Polk St. location was Known to be open 24/7, which is not very common in San Francisco. Bob’s Donuts has two other locations: 601 Baker St. in San Francisco and 252 Almonte Blvd. In Mill Valley.
