Early in the third quarter of the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ Week 10 bout against the USC Trojans, star QB Dylan Raiola suffered an apparent ankle injury. What’s the latest on his status?
Latest Injury Update on Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola
On a 1st and 10 at USC’s 23-yard line, Raiola broke a sack, stepped up, took an arm to the head, and then suffered a sack-fumble from his left side. Due to the angle of the hit and the shift in body way, his right ankle collapsed under him awkardly, and he stayed on the ground in serious pain for some time.

On the drives to follow, backup freshman QB TJ Lateef was on the field running the offense, with Raiola giving words of encouragement before his first series.
According to sideline reporter Jessica Coody, Raiola entered the medical tent twice and was seen saying, “I can’t go,” during the fourth quarter light show.
Raiola finished the game 10 of 15 for 91 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions, leading the Cornhuskers to a 14-6 lead before his injury.
Since then, Lateef has completed 4 of 6 passes for just eight yards, and the Trojans have roared out to a 21-17 advantage.

In his true sophomore season, Raiola had Nebraska on a trajectory for one of their better season in recent memory, entering Week 10 at 6-2.
He raised his completion by almost 5% (67.1% to 72.8%), averaged 8.1 yards per attempt to 6.9, and owned a superior 17:6 TD-to-INT ratio (13:11).
Clearly, HC Matt Rhule and OC Dana Holgerson’s offense was humming with Raiola at the helm. If he misses significant time, which, by the nature of the injury, he could (high ankle sprain), they’ll need to adjust the attack to fit Lateef’s strengths. At least they have experience working with true freshman QBs.
