2nd suspect arrested after man shot to death in Long Beach

A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Long Beach.

Felipe Ramirez, 27, of Long Beach, was arrested in connection with the murder of Thomas Mello, 36, of Long Beach, police announced Thursday.

The first suspect, Jose Garcia Linares, 25, was arrested earlier this month.

On October 12, Long Beach Police responded to a shooting in the 200 block of Falcon Street shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Police found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

The shooter fled the scene before police arrived. After investigating, detectives identified Garcia Linares as the suspected gunman. Police indicated that he was homeless at the time.

On the same day, he was located near the 700 block of Orange Avenue where he was taken into custody.

Investigators later identified Ramirez as the second suspect involved. On October 21, a search warrant was served in Huntington Beach, where Ramirez was found and he was arrested for murder. Both Ramirez and Garcia Linares remain in custody without bail.

Investigators believe the incident began with an attempted robbery that evolved into a fatal shooting.

No further details were released, including whether the suspects and victim knew each other. Investigators have submitted the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration.
