DENVER (KDVR) — A jury has found a 61-year-old Castle Rock voter guilty of voter fraud in connection with the 2022 general election.
Prosecutors were able to prove that Elizabeth Ann Davis submitted a ballot in her deceased husband’s name and also cast her legitimate vote in the same election. She was also convicted of casting a ballot for her son, according to a news release from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Douglas County Clerk and Recorder Sherry Davis praised the outcome of the case in a news release shared Wednesday.
“There are layers of security built into the election process here in Colorado, and this case shows that it works,” she said. “We appreciate having the District Attorney’s Office take voter fraud attempts seriously to ensure election integrity.”
The specific charges on which Davis was convicted were two counts of forgery and one count of “impersonating a voter.” The district attorney’s office said Davis has a “long criminal history” and has previously been convicted of forgery, theft, drug crimes and prostitution in both Florida and Colorado.
Two deputy prosecutors who worked on the case stressed the broader implications of voter fraud, including the threat it poses to democracy.
“Protecting our elections is essential,” Deputy District Attorney David Posner said in a statement released by the 23rd Judicial District Office. “The ruling shows that society will hold someone accountable if they have compromised the integrity of that process.”
District Attorney George Brauchler spoke of the seriousness of the case. He described Davis as a “career forger” who had not learned from previous convictions.
“Those who seek to corrupt our elections or dilute our votes — even with a single ballot — will find the Attorney General’s Office intent on jailing them,” Brauchler said. “In an election between lawlessness and lawlessness, Elizabeth Davis voted for prison…and we work to respect that election.”
Davis is scheduled to be sentenced on January 9, 2026. She faces up to three years in prison.
