Englewood shelter-in-place alert sent to too many recipients

DENVER (KDVR) — The shelter-in-place order has been sent to too many recipients, According to a social media post from the city of Inglewood on Wednesday afternoon.

On Tuesday night, around 7 p.m., a shelter-in-place was issued in Inglewood after police were active in a small area.

However, the alert was sent to a “broader audience than intended,” the city said.

Once staff learned of the error, they modified the initial shelter-in-place notification.

The Englewood Police Department said it is reviewing its notification system to find out what happened and take steps to prevent something similar from happening again.

“Public safety is our top priority,” a social media post said.

Another issue that arose during the mishap was that the notice only said “EnglewoodCO Alert: Shelter in Place,” which the department suggested did not include enough information.

In future shelter-in-place notices, more information will be included to give residents a better idea of what is happening and how they can take precautions to stay safe during an incident.

“We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve our emergency notification process,” EPD said.
