A man has been arrested on attempted murder charges after a victim was found with a gunshot wound in Riverside County.
The suspect has been identified as Jesse Romero, 27, of Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
On September 27, deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon near Bob Hope Road and Country Club Drive in Rancho Mirage at approximately 1 a.m.
Witnesses found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and were attempting to provide medical assistance when the suspect approached the victim and assaulted them a second time.
Eyewitnesses said that the victim and the suspect then fled the area.
Police later found the victim in a nearby community and transported him to a local hospital in stable condition.
After investigating, detectives identified Romero as the prime suspect. On October 10, authorities found him in the 28000 block of Landau Street in Cathedral City, where he was taken into custody.
Romero was arrested for attempted murder and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center. No further details have been released, including the victim’s identity, motive or whether the suspect and victim were known to each other.
