1 dead, 2 hospitalized in fatal Brockton house fire, officials say

Firefighters tried to rescue a woman believed to be in her forties, but she was dead when they found her.

One resident has died and two others were taken to the hospital after a house fire broke out overnight in Brockton, according to fire officials.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Brockton firefighters responded to a structure fire at 80 Glendale Street, officials said. Intense flames were rising through the back and right windows of the single-family home.

The Brockton Fire Department said the heaviest fire was on the second floor of the home On Facebook. Firefighters found that the fire had engulfed the entire second floor, including the hallway and bedrooms.

After learning someone was still inside, firefighters entered the home to search for them while battling the blaze, according to fire officials. In a room “completely engulfed in flames,” they found the resident and tried to save her. It was believed that she was a woman in her forties, but she died.

Once the fire was extinguished, investigators examined the scene and determined that the fire started in a second-floor bedroom. Officials said that initially it did not appear suspicious or intentionally set up, but the exact cause remains unknown.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the woman’s cause and manner of death. At this time, the Brockton Fire and Police Department, along with State Police fire investigators and detectives, are still looking into the cause of the fire, according to officials.
